If there’s one thing that warms my heart, it’s pictures of dogs and cats getting on, snuggling up and looking really damn cute together.

And it’s even better when those pictures have stories behind them. One story of dog-cat love that recently that caught my eye was the tale of Chloe the pug and Willow the Siamese cat. Both fawn-coloured the two little pets belong to Amanda and Ron Bjelland.

Chloe the pug is a senior citizen – 7 years – compared to Willow the Siamese cat’s 1 year old kitten hood, sometimes they play chase and seek or Willow will lick Chloe’s pudgy sides.

Anyway, the bond became stronger last week when Willow wandered round the back of the house to check out the local rabbit population and disappeared out of sight. Amanda and Rob didn’t think anything of it, but Chloe suddenly started barking. Ron let Chloe out but the dog kept barking, he let her back in with the same result. Eventually Chloe led Ron down and out into the garden, where Ron was shocked to see Willow the cat in the icy fish pond, struggling to stay afloat.

A hole in the pond, made to keep the koi fish alive, had become a trap for the little cat, thoughtlessly following a rabbit or perhaps the ornamental koi. Willow was quickly hoisted out, and her owners reckoned she’d been in there for up to 20 minutes, and is alive thanks only to Chloe’s quick thinking.
